One Step at a Time
My husband and broke in our new Four Wheel Pop-Up Camper over this past weekend.
We drove up Jones Pass…
and then made our way to the trailhead of Grays and Torreys, Colorado's 9th and 11th tallest peaks - both 14ers.
We camped overnight Saturday at the trail head and woke up early Sunday morning to start our ascent.
The total trek was 8.5 miles with an elevation gain of about 3,600 feet. It would take us about 7 hours.
Yes… altitude is real when you are climbing up a mountain!
As we were starting our climb, I noticed my mind starting to become a little overwhelmed by the magnitude of what I had just gotten myself into.
I am in decent shape, but my typical workouts don’t involve climbing up a mountain… especially one is over 14,000 feet.
I wasn’t sure how my body would react to the altitude.
I wasn’t sure I had the physical fitness to take on such a feat.
So, I decided that I would climb the mountain the way that I’ve done everything in my life.
One step at a time.
I knew I could take one step and then another and that was where I focused my attention.
Taking the next step, and then the next step, and staying fully present in the moment.
Before I knew it, we had summited the first peak and I was looking down at where we had come from in amazement and appreciation.
Yes… one step at a time.
This is how everything significant and worthwhile has happened for me.
It was a good reminder.
It can be so easy to get distracted by the magnitude of the mountain that I lose sight of the importance and significance of each step along the way.
How about you?
Have you lost focus on the next step in front of you because you are so distracted by the mountain up ahead?
If so, it’s never too late to reorient yourself and refocus. You can do it right now!
If you would like support on your journey up the mountain in staying present and focused, I’m here!
Here’s to focusing on the next step in front of you so you can summit your next peak!
In Ultimate Support of You!
PS I want to give my husband photo cred. I don't like taking pictures so these are his pictures. He's available for hire if you are interested;).
PSS Veda approved of the camper life!
PSSS I’m super excited to share with you this month’s podcast episode with Janneke Van Veen. Janneke is an engineer turned empowerment coach. How does an engineer become an empowerment coach, you might ask? Through asking for help and following aliveness. Janneke van Veen started her career as a female engineer. She proceeded to work in design, manufacturing, and logistics in Europe and the US. Tired of trying to fit herself into a box that she didn’t fit into, Janneke embraced her uniqueness and embarked on a journey to create her own definition of success. Come join me to hear how Janneke has overcome one adversity after another to achieve success on her own terms. Click here to access our interview on iTunes.
