Pulling out the weeds
I did some yard work over this past weekend, which involved pulling out the weeds around some of the plants in the front yard.
I love pulling weeds. It feels so good to get a hold of the weed and pull it up by its roots.
Initially, I found it difficult to differentiate the weeds from the plant. The weeds had become so intertwined with the plant that it was hard to tell the difference between the weeds and the branches of the plant. Once I was able to identify the weed, I would follow it all the way to the ground and pull it up from the roots.
I did this repeatedly.
After a few times of doing this, it started becoming easier to differentiate the weeds from the plant.
Once I pulled out all the weeds, what remained was a beautiful plant.
Naturally itself without anything blocking or disguising its beauty. It took some time and effort, but I imagine the plant now feels much more free to be itself and is grateful to not have all the weeds in the way covering up its beauty.
It reminds me of the coaching process.
I see the coaching relationship as one where the coach assists the client in pulling out the weeds in their life, metaphorically speaking.
The weeds show up in various forms…insecurity, self-doubt, lack of confidence, indecision, difficulty in interpersonal relationships, lack of motivation, uncertainty, dissatisfaction, low self-trust, unhealthy habits and behavior, passive-aggressiveness, fatigue, and on and on I could go.
If the weed pulling is done effectively, what results is more of the client’s true self.
Which is not only typically more pleasing to others, but usually results in the client feeling more peace, more freedom, more self-trust, more clarity, more energy, more satisfaction, better relationships with others, more focus, more confidence, less self-doubt, less anxiety, etc. etc.
It’s a beautiful and transformational process.
And leads me to a few questions for you…
What weeds are getting in the way of allowing your plant to grow and thrive and reveal its true beauty to the world?
Would you like some assistance in pulling out these weeds?
If so, you’re in luck because that’s what I’m skilled at doing! Simply grab a spot on my calendar and we can talk about the weeds that are getting in your way and come up with a game plan for pulling them out (by the roots!).

In Ultimate Support of You!
P.S. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to one of the plants in time. The weeds got to it before I did and killed the plant. Don’t let the weeds take over your life and kill what's left of the aliveness in you. If you have made it this far in reading this post, I promise you still have some (aliveness) left, even if it doesn’t feel that way in this moment. Act quickly and take control of your weeds today!
