Taking Responsibility

About 6 months ago, I had a big realization. I woke up one day and realized that my life wasn’t going in the direction that I wanted it to go. So, I decided to something about it. I took responsibility for my life and took a BIG leap to change the direction of my career and pursue work that was more fulfilling and meaningful to me. I gave up a successful 7 year career in public accounting as an audit manager to pursue my dream of being a coach and helping people in a different way.

Why did I make such a drastic change? The short answer is because I realized that I wasn’t happy and remembered that I was the one responsible for my happiness. I realized that it was up to me to create and live the life that I wanted. I realized that if life was not going the way I intended, it was my responsibility to change.

Sometimes this means changing my perspective and outlook on a situation. Sometimes this means taking responsibility for my emotions and figuring out the most productive and healthy way to deal with them. Sometimes this means saying I’m sorry. Sometimes this means compromising. Sometimes this means making a 5 degree shift in my life. In this case, it required more than that. It required me making a more drastic change to create something different for myself.

What about you? What does taking responsibility mean to you? How does it look in your life? What area of your life do you need to take responsibility and make a change? Maybe it’s a change in your perspective or attitude or maybe it’s a bigger change.

Remember, you always have a choice. Choose to take responsibility for your life and your happiness today. You deserve to have the life you dream of having.
