Choosing Gratitude

Since today is Thanksgiving, writing about gratitude seems important and relevant to me.

I'm grateful for so many things in my life right now, some of which being:

  1. Family and friends
  2. Ability to pursue my dreams
  3. Opportunity to create something different for myself at any moment whether it be changing something externally or shifting my mindset about something
  4. Knowledge, wisdom, and insight I have gained through life experiences
  5. Freedom of speech
  6. The relationship I have with my husband and the support I receive from him daily
  7. Health
  8. An open mind
  9. Love and compassion I feel for myself and others
  10. Hope
  11. Resiliency
  12. People who have different opinions and perspectives on life

These are just a few things that come to my mind. There are so many more.

While all of the items above are important to me, I feel extremely grateful today for the ability to choose. The ability to choose love, to choose to see the best in life and people, to choose a different perspective when the one I'm in isn't serving me well, to choose hope, to choose to learn from life experiences, to choose to listen and understand, to choose empathy, and to choose gratitude.

I think being grateful is a choice we can make everyday. We can choose to focus on the negative and what's wrong with the world and those around us or we can choose to focus on the positive and the good we see in the world and in people. We can choose to focus on the problem or focus on the solution.

What do you choose? Remember, you ALWAYS have a choice. Consider choosing gratitude today!
