Goal Setting
It’s hard to believe that it’s December and we are coming up on a new year. With the 2017 year fast approaching, I thought the topic of goal setting was important and relevant to consider to help you finish the 2016 year up strong and start considering your goals for 2017.
Goal setting has always been important to me but has become especially paramount to me now as an entrepreneur. When I started my business, I had a vision in mind of where I wanted to be but knew I needed some help in getting there. I hired a coach and immediately remembered the importance of goal setting.
I started with the vision I had for myself and my business. From there, I imagined where I wanted to be in six months and set six month goals for myself. Then, I broke that down further and set three month goals for myself. Next, I took my three month goals and set monthly goals. Then, I took my monthly goals and clarified weekly goals. Lastly, I took my weekly goals and created daily goals.
I post my weekly goals in a support group on Sunday to provide accountability for myself and then share my accomplishments from the week with the group on Saturday. Each day, I have a list of items to complete to help me stay on task to achieve my weekly goals. I use my calendar to schedule time to complete my tasks to ensure I won’t be interrupted.
This schedule has been tremendously helpful in keeping me focused and motivated to reach my goals and make my vision a reality. I honestly don’t know how I would do it without goal setting and an accountability structure. The goal setting keeps me focused on the tasks at hand and the accountability piece helps me to feel supported and allows space for me to recognize and celebrate my accomplishments. Thanks to my goal setting, I’m on track to achieve my three month goals at the end of this month and on my way to achieving my 6 month goals.
How about you?
Do you utilize goal setting? Do you have a vision of where you want to be in 6 months or a year? Have you broken that vision down to 3 month, monthly, and daily goals in order to support you in making your vision a reality?
If not, what are you waiting for? It’s the perfect time to set some goals for what you want to accomplish in the remaining few weeks of 2016 and start considering some goals for 2017. My challenge to you today is to get clear about what you want to accomplish in the next few weeks to finish out your 2016 year strong and create some goals for yourself. After you do this, start considering your goals for 2017. Create a plan to make your vision a reality!
